Aggregate dependent electrochromic properties of amino acid appended naphthalene diimides in water

چکیده
Naphthalene diimides have electrochromic applications due to their highly stable dark reduced state along with a transparent colourless neutral state. Here we show the morphology of aggregated structures at different pHs has greater influence on chromic properties than chemical structure.

Naphthalene diimides (NDIs) form emissive ground-state charge-transfer (CT) complexes with various electron rich aromatic solvents like benzene, o-xylene and mesitylene. TD-DFT calculation of the complexes suggests CT interaction and accounts for the observed ground-state changes.
